The Apartment
The Apartment was originally the offices for Ballater’s Bus Depot that was next door, where you now find the Co-Op. The original Bus Station managed by Strachans and Bluebird coaches. In the lounge, we have original watercolour paintings which show the brightly coloured buses that used to carry passengers from Aberdeen to Braemar and beyond on day trips.
Old Stables Courtyard
Old Stables Courtyard was converted in the 1990’s from the original stabling used by Balmoral estate. The horses stabled here would have been used for the Royal household carriages when they arrived in Ballater by steam train. Visit the Rothesay Rooms in Station Square, to view one of the original train carriages a history of the train stations and the Royal waiting rooms. Take a table and try their delicious home baking!
